Athletics Department

Philosophy

The Athletic Department program is developed as an extension of the physical education programs to enable the skilled athlete to participate on a competitive level in interscholastic athletics. The department strives to provide the athlete with an opportunity for success in accordance with her chosen goals, give her an opportunity to gain recognition, provide an opportunity for peer approval and increased self-esteem, and to develop respect and tolerance for the abilities and opinions of others.

Goals

In addition to the goals of the Physical Education Department, the Athletic Department aims to form an athlete who:

• Is able to keep sports competition and associated activities in the proper Christian perspective.
• Desires to develop and properly utilize her God-given physical and mental abilities.
• Exercises a capacity for self-discipline and increased ability to cope with stress.
• Appreciates the efforts of others, whether they are teammates, opponents, coaches, officials, or spectators.
