C.I.F. Southern Section Championship Finals @ Mt. San Antonio College ~ May 17, 2008 - 11:00AM

About the Team
The La Reina Track & Field Team is open to all students in grades 9-12.  The track & field program has asserted itself as one of the premier programs on both the local and state level, qualifying individuals for the C.I.F. Southern Section Division IV Finals, C.I.F. Southern Section Masters Championships, and the California State Championships in recent years.  This year's team will look to continue on this success throughout the 2008 season!

Regents Lasso The Rangers For 5th Straight TVL Win

The Regents made quick work of the Rangers, as the Varsity team defeated Nordhoff 88-33. Leading the team to victory, Sasha Blanchard had 4 wins on the day, taking the 400 Meters (58.45), 100 Hurdles (15.70), 300 Hurdles (46.65), and the Long Jump (17’ 06.25"). Sasha’s time of 58.45 was a new school record, beating the old mark of 58.95 set last year by Rosie Spinks (now competing for UC Santa Cruz).

Sasha wasn’t the only one setting records on the day, as Hanna Winter and Tara Blanchard also etched their names into the record books. Hanna running in the same 400 meter race set a new Frosh/Soph record in 59.60, good enough for second place. Tara Blanchard ran away from the field in the 1600 meters, setting a new Frosh/Soph record in 5:14.10 (just 2 seconds off the varsity record!).

The J.V. Team also locked up a victory over the Rangers, defeating Nordoff 85-46. The team captured 9 of the 16 events, sweeping 4 events. Jamie Butters had 2 victories on the day, winning the 400 (1:05.20) and 800 (2:51.08).

Katie Kavetsky in her first 1600 meter race ever, won the event in 6:13.13!

Emma Sullivan sprinted past everyone in the 100 meters in 14.20, while teammate Michelle Cunningham did the same in the 200 meters in 29.18!

Fantastic Job ladies on another successful meet!

Regents Have Best Showing In School History At Arcadia Invitational 

2008 marked the team’s best showing at an Arcadia Invitational, as La Reina Had 7 athletes competing in 8 events. Tara Blanchard set the tone for the team, winning the day meet 800 meters in a new school record time of 2:14.71!

 

 


Sarah Pearson placed 4th in the day meet mile, setting a new school Frosh/Soph record in 5:15.78!The relay team of Hanna Winter, Katie Dana, Sarah Pearson, and Tara Blanchard set a seasonal best for the team, placing 2nd in the day meet 4X400 Relay in 4:01.65!

Sasha Blanchard had hefty day, competing in both the day and night meet. During the day, Sasha easily won her 100 hurdle heat in 14.93, to advance to the seeded race finals held later that evening. In the seeded race, Sasha finished 5th in 14.72. Sasha also competed in the night meet Invitational 300 hurdles, where she finished a respectable 9th place in 44.62!

On the day, La Reina captured at a school record 8 medals at the meet. Way to go ladies!

Regents Have Solid Performances at 89th Russell Cup 

La Reina had a solid showing at the 89th Russell Cup Track Meet, the oldest track and field meet in California! Mary Thompson and Kristin Wendel were the top performers on the day, as both took 3rd in their respective events.  Mary set a personal best in Frosh/Soph 800 meters, running 2:25.50, while Kristin was just off her personal best by 1/100th of a second in the Frosh/Soph 300 hurdles, finishing in 50.76!

Michelle Cunningham finished 5th in the Frosh/Soph long jump with a leap of 14’04.00"

Gabby Lowry had two huge personal bests on the day, first dipping under 6:00 in the 1600 meters for the first time, running 5:59.35, and then destroying her personal best in the 3200 by 32 seconds to finish in 13:24.86!

Sami Kotake led La Reina varsity action, jumping to a personal best in the triple jump at 31’01.25".

Ivana Sanchez tied her season PR, jumping 4’08.00" in the High Jump, finishing a respecable 13th place for her efforts.

Regents Ground The Flashes For TVL Victory #4

The Regents grounded the Flashes for their 4th straight TVL victory, defeating Fillmore 105-29. Katie Dana Had her best meet of the season, taking 1st in the 100 meters (12.85), and the 200 meters (26.57). Katie’s time of 12.85 in the 100 was a huge PR, and her first time under the 13 second barrier for the event!

The PR’s kept coming with Kristin Wendel running to a personal best in the 300 Hurdles, running 50.75, while Lauren Garcia improved her personal best in the Shot Put, placing second with a throw of 27’11.00".

Morgan McDonald had another solid performance in the Discus, throwing 87’03.00", good enough for 2nd place.

Just like the varsity team, the junior varsity team was able to finish off Fillmore, beating the Flashes 80-50. Elizabeth Mackel and Jenna Mier out jumped the competition, to finish 1st and 2nd in the triple jump, with leaps of 26’11.00" and 26’10.00" respectively.

 

Megumi Nakajima had her best performance of the season in the high jump, clearing 4’04.00" for 2nd place.

The 4X400 relay team of Katie Kavetsky, Jenny Tolcher, Stacie Buescher, and Jamie Butters ran to a season PR in 4:34.65

Regents Clip The Wings Of The Oak Park Eagles

 
For the first time in school history, the La Reina Regents clipped the wings of the Oak Park Eagles, ending their 4 year undefeated streak in league. This victory was due in part to a full team effort, which led to 77 seasonal personal best! La Reina captured 10 of 16 events to defeat Oak Park 71-64!

In one of her biggest meet performances of her high school career, Sasha Blanchard led the attack against the Eagles winning 3 events - 100 hurdles (14.74), 300 hurdles (46.61), and the long jump (16’09.25"), and placing second in the high jump (5’00.00"), tying her PR!

Tara Blanchard and Hanna Winter added two individual wins each, Tara winning the 400 meters (1:00.18) and 800 meters (2:17.70), with Hanna winning the 100 meters (12.48) and 200 meters (25.67)!

Throwers Morgan McDonald and Lauren Garcia had the most outstanding performances on the day.  With her best ever toss in the discus; Morgan McDonald won the event, setting a new school record of 91’07.00"!  Lauren Garcia had the put of her life, PRing by 3 feet (27'00.00") in the shot put to take 2nd place!

The Junior Varsity team came up short of duplicating the Varsity team’s efforts, none the less, still put up a strong effort. The J.V. team were handed their first loss of the season, losing 40-95.

Jenna Mier, and Elizabeth Mackel each set personal bests in the triple jump, taking 1st and 2nd with jumps of 27’11.00 and 27’03.00"!

 

Brooke Ellias also had a personal best, leaping 4’04.00" to win the High Jump! This was brooks first win of the season!

Sara Anselmo, Tessa Katch, and Mary Freel swept the 100 hurdles running 20.50, 21.70, and 21.70., earning 25% of the points scored by the team.

Congratulations ladies on the best team performance in school history!

Records Continue To Fall At Don Green Invitational 

 

Records continued to fall, as the Regents rolled through the Don Green Invitational with dominating performances.  Sasha Blanchard led the way, winning three (3) events, the Junior/Senior Long Jump (15’05.00”), 100 Hurdles (15.46), and 300 Hurdles (46.41).  Sasha’s mark of 46.41 was a new meet record!

Tara Blanchard added a win of her own, outrunning all competitors in the Frosh/Soph 800 Meters in 2:23.54, while Mary Thompson celebrated her birthday winning her heat in 2:30.27 to take 5th!

 

Hanna Winter had another strong showing in the sprints, placing 2nd in the Frosh/Soph 100 Meters in 12.94!

With a combined Frosh/Soph – Junior/Senior field in the 3200, Sarah Pearson Finished 4th overall, and 2nd in the Frosh/Soph division in 11:36.28!

Colleen Murphy returned to action with a solid 3rd place finish in the Frosh/Soph 200 Meters, sprinting to a 28.14 clocking.  Also earning 3rd place honors was Nicole Franzman in the Frosh/Soph Long jump, leaping 14’07.00”!

Regents Open 2008 Season With Record Performance

 

La Reina had a record setting performance to open the 2008 season, as the Regents varsity team defeated Agoura 72-51. 

Freshman Hanna Winter made her presence known, as she set a new school record in the 100 meters, clocking 12.52 for her efforts!

The Blanchard sisters were dominate as usual, as Sasha won the 100 Hurdles (15.00) and Long Jump (17’04.00”), while Tara won the 400 meters in 1:00.21. 

Sarah Pearson looked to continue where she left off last year, with an impressive win in the 1600 meters, running 5:29.35.

Lauren Garcia and Morgan McDonald each scored wins in the throws, Lauren putting 23’04.25” in the shot, with Morgan tossing the disc 81’09.00”.


 

 

 
The J.V. team had a solid showing on the day as well, also beating  Agoura 59-54.

Freshman Gabby Lowry was a big contributor to her team, as she won her first ever 2 mile race, clocking a 14:03.75!

Jamie Butters had a huge come from behind victory in the 400 meters, catching an Agoura runner in the last 50 meters to win in 1:07.82!

Two newcomers to the team, Brianna Stafford and Megan Winter, each found success in their first meet, Brianna winning the 100 meters (14.27) and Megan winning the High Jump (4’02.00”).

The performances that came from this meet are only preludes of many great things to come this season!  Congratulation ladies on a great opening meet!
