Raymond “Ray” Todd Memorial Scholarship

The Raymond “Ray” Todd Memorial Scholarship was established in 2006 in honor of Ray Todd.  Ray was a long time member of the Westlake Village United Methodist Church and devoted his life to the betterment of his church, the community, and youth.  In commemoration of Ray’s contributions this scholarship will be granted based on the following criteria:

  • The applicant must be graduating during the spring of the current school year from a high school (public or private) located in the Conejo Valley.
  • The applicant must have achieved an overall un-weighted GPA of 3.0 or higher in grades 9 – 12 inclusive.
  • The applicant has routinely and consistently been involved and participated with charitable, community and civic organizations.
  • The applicant has distinguished themselves in music and/or athletics.

Knights of Columbus ~ Simi Valley Council 5803

The Simi Valley Knights of Columbus, Council 5803, are pleased to offer five (5) scholarships in the amount of $500.00 each. The Council wishes to support the youth of the world and in particular the youth from St. Rose of Lima and St. Peter Claver Parishes in Simi Valley.  They want to make youth aware of the importance of giving their talents to church and community service.

This scholarship is available to high school graduating seniors who are members of St. Rose of Lima or St. Peter Claver Parishes in Simi Valley for at least the last year and are planning on furthering their formal education.  The scholarship recipients will be selected, in part, by the following criteria: involvement in community services, school activities, parish activities, attitude, and academics.

The Council is interested in providing assistance to students who know and have demonstrated the importance of giving something back to her church and community. They also strongly encourage "C" and "B" students to submit one of their applications.  Applications are available in the College Center.

Scholarship application deadline is March 7th, 2008.  Completed applications must be submitted to Mrs. La Belle in the College Center.

Camarillo/Somis-Pleasant Valley Lions Club

The Camarillo/Somis-Pleasant Valley Lions are pleased to offer two (2) scholarships in the amount of $1,000 each.  Their Club, along with Lions International, wishes to support the youth of the world and make them aware of the importance of giving of their time and talents in community service.

This scholarship is available to high school seniors who live in the 93010, 93012 and 93066 zip code and will graduate in June and are planning on furthering their formal education.  The Lions Club is interested in providing assistance to students who know and have demonstrated the importance of giving something back to her community. This years scholarship recipients will be selected from applicants having a 2.50 - 3.85 G.P.A. and who have demonstrated commitment to community service, a positive attitude, and good academics.  Applications are available at www.pvlions.org and in the College Center.

Scholarship application deadline is Aprill 28, 2008.  Completed applications must be submitted to Mrs. La Belle in the College Center.

Japanese American Citizens League ~ Ventura County Chapter

To be eligible for this scholarship, you must be a high school senior for the current calendar year, and graduating from a Ventura County high school.  You must be planning to attend a two or four-year college, university, or trade school in the fall. Additionally, you must either be of Japanese ancestry, or a member of JACL.  Please understand that there is a different application for the national JACL scholarship, as eligibility requirements are different for that scholarship program.  Any questions regarding this application, or for information on the national scholarship, please contact Jennifer Kuo, at benjenkuo@earthlink.net, or during standard work hours at (805) 373-4536.

Rotary Club of Thousand Oaks

The Rotary Club of Thousand Oaks is pleased to announce that they are once again sponsoring a scholarship program to encourage deserving local residents to advance their education and improve their job skills before entering the local job market. They have supported such efforts for more than twenty-seven years.

The academic level being targeted by these scholarships is for those students ineligible for scholarship awards elsewhere. Pre-vocational trainees, job change candidates, and those seeking skilled occupations will be favorably received. Motivation to succeed and clear goals will be valued assets.

Basic Criteria

  • Must be a resident of the city of Thousand Oaks or its adjacent areas
  • No immediate family members of the Rotary Club are eligible for these awards
  • Must be enrolled or planning to enroll in a post-secondary school (college, training school or technical school)
  • Must have a GPA of between 2.5 and 3.5

Applications are available in the College Center.  Application deadline is March 21, 2008.

Jack Hledik Memorial Scholarship ~ Jacobs Sverdrup Naval Systems Group

The Jacobs Sverdrup Naval Systems Group Scholarships have been established to recognize and reward high school, university and college students in the top tier of their class.  They are students who embody Naval Systems Group's commitment to education.  A $1,000.00 scholarship will be awarded in the Ventura County area.

Qualification Requirements:

  • Be pursuing a degree in a field of engineering, mathematics, or a science field that is related to an engineering discipline
  • Have been accepted or enrolled as a full-time student at an accredited college or university for the school year following the application deadline
  • Have achieved one or more of the following academic standards:
        - A minimum academic weighted 3.25 GPA
        - Composite score of 25 on the ACT
        - Score of 1150 on the SAT
        - Be a citizen of the United States of America

National Charity League ~ Conejo Valley Chapter

The Conejo Valley Chapter of National Charity League are proud of the area's high schools and are happy to provide scholarship opportunities to community-minded female student(s) in need of financial assistance.  This scholarship is available to graduating high school students planning to attend trade and technical schools as well as two and four year colleges and universities.  The following criteria will be considered in the selection of the recipients:

  • Applicants must NOT be a past or present member of National Charity League.
  • Applicants must have need of financial assistance.
  • Applicants must have community service involvement.

Applications are available in the College Center. Application deadline is March 15, 2008.

The Conejo Valley Association of Realtors

All graduating seniors who plan to attend a four year college or university, community college or trade/technical school are eligible to apply for this scholarship.  Students with all ranges of GPAs are encouraged to apply.Criteria and Eligibilty:
  • Applicant must be a permanent resident of the Conejo Valley for at least the past semester period.
  • Applicant must have been accepted to an accredited school and plan to attend as a full time student in the next (fall) session with a minimum of 12 units.
  • Scholarship recipients shall be selected on their merits including grades, ability to communicate (life goals), community service, extracurricular activities, goals, and (if applicable) significant improvements in some facet of the student's life (e.g., scholastic, personal).

Applications are available in the College Center. The application deadline is April 25, 2008 and must be returned to Mrs. La Belle in the College Center.

SCCTA ~ Southern California Cable & Telecommunications Association

The Southern California Cable & Telecommunications Association (SCCTA) and our local cable television company are offering scholarships to graduating high school seniors in the Southern California area. The amounts of the scholarships will vary from $500 to $2,000 totaling approximately $25,000. Successful applicants will have demonstrated her desire to continue her education leading to a career within the Cable or Telecommunication industry.

Ronald Reagan Presidential Library Scholars Program

Each year, the Ronald Reagan Presidential Foundation will bestow upon deserving graduating high school seniors in Ventura County the designation of Presidential Library Scholar.  This prestigious distinction will be reserved for those students who have exhibited exemplary leadership skills and character traits during their four years in high school.  In partnership with California Oaks State Bank, $20,000 in scholarship money will be awarded.

If you have a 3.0 GPA in your college prep courses, you are eligible to apply.  You can download the application from www.reaganlibrary.com , click on "What's New" section.  Applications are also available in the College Center.  The application deadline is March 17, 2008.  Previous award winners from La Reina include Wendy Cook '07, Samantha Harris '07 and Julianne Humason '07.  

Soroptimist ~ Amy Durst McAvoy Memorial Scholarship

Applicants must be female high school graduating seniors.   They must be residents of Ventura County and pursuing a degree in math or science or a related field at California State University Channel Islands.  Students must meet the requirements for admission to the University of California system.  Financial need may be considered, but is not a requirement.  The award amount is $1,500.  Applications are available at the College Center--application must be received by March 28, 2008.

Mesa Education Foundation ~ Lee Welsh Memorial Scholarship

For students who graduated from Mesa Union School in Somis, CA.  Applications are available in the College Center.  Application deadline is March 31, 2008.

AHEPA (American Hellenic Educational and Progressive Association) Family of Ventura County Scholarship

The AHEPA Family of Ventura County mission is to promote the ideals of Hellenism, education, philanthropy, civic responsibility and family and individual excellence. They are offering Lena Simitzi Memorial Scholarship of $500 to qualified young women who are residents of Ventura County and who will be enrolled in a program of post secondary education during the next school year.

Applicant requirements are:

  • Residency in Ventura County for at least one year prior to application
  • Academic transcript
  • U.S. citizenship
  • Greek descent or related to a member of the Order of AHEPA or the Daughters of Penelope
  • Full-time student (12 units or more) in the fall 

Selection of the recipient(s) will be based on the following criteria:

  • Completed application form
  • Essay and personal statement
  • Transcript
  • Instructor recommendations

Ventura County Chapter ~ National Latino Peace Officers Association

Third Annual Scholarship Award for graduating seniors who reside in Ventura County and who are pursuing a higher education.  Students need not be Latino, but merely promote diversity in school and/or the work-place.  Consideration will be given to those students interested in law enforcement careers.  Applicants must have a minimum GPA of 3.0 with no D or F in all completed course work.  Applicants must also demonstrate community service and/or involvement.  Applications are available in the College Center or applications and request for information may be sent to:

The Italian Catholic Federation

The Italian Catholic Federation offers scholarships to Catholic graduating seniors of Italian descent who have at least a 3.2 GPA (If either Catholic parent or grandparent is a member of the Federation, applicant must be Catholic but need not be of Italian ancestry to qualify.) Applications are available in the College Center. The application deadline is March 15, 2008.  For more information, call the I.C.F. office at (888) 423-1924.  

Sam Walton COMMUNITY Scholarship

This scholarship is a one-time, non-renewable award of $1,000. 

  • Available to high school/home school seniors graduating between August 1, 2007 and July 31, 2008.
  • Applicant cannot be a Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. Associate or the dependent of a Wal-Mart Stores, Inc. Associate as of April 25, 2008.
  • Applicant must have a cumulative high school grade point average of at least 2.5 on a 4-point un-weighted scale, and have taken either the ACT or SAT tests.
  • Applicant must be enrolled full time (at least 12 college credit hours) in the fall 2008 and spring 2009 semesters.
  • Applicant may apply once for the COMMUNITY Scholarship using the store number from their nearest Sam's Club or Wal-Mart store, but not both.  Multiple applications will results in disqualification.  LRHS students use Store #2621 (Simi Valley).

Burger King Scholarship

Unlike the vast majority of scholarships that are awarded to the small percentage of students at the very top of their class, the Burger King Scholars award is aimed at assisting students who work part-time and still manage to excel academically.  The student does not have to be employed at Burger King to be eligible.  Beginning Oct. 15, applications will be available at www.bkscholars.scholarshipamerica.org .

Ventura County Community Foundation ~ Community Scholarship Program

VCCF is a public charity dedicated to increasing the quality of life in Ventura County by encouraging local philanthropy to respond to needs through responsible grant making and scholarship programs.

Even if you are not a "straight A" student, you may apply. Many of the scholarships are based on financial need or improvement year by year. In many cases (but not all) a minimum 3.00 GPA is required. It is free to apply. Whether or not you know were you will be going to school after graduating from high school, you can still apply.

Individuals, corporations, and organizations created the Scholarship Funds at VCCF in order to assist students pursuing higher education. Each scholarship has specific eligibility criteria that was defined by the donor when the fund was established. Some are for specific majors, some are for students in particular geographic regions, and some are open only to students who are graduating from certain high schools. The specific criteria for each of the scholarship funds in VCCF's Community Scholarship Program are included in their Guidelines document online at www.vccf.org/scholarships.html.

You will need to submit the following with your application(s):

  • An official transcript
  • Two letters of recommendation (at least one from a current teacher)
  • An essay of 1,000 words or less (check the guidelines as some scholarships require you to address specific topics in your essay)

Zonta Club of the Conejo Valley Area

Zonta International is a worldwide service organization of executives in business and the professions working together to advance the status of women.  The Zonta International Foundation supports the mission of Zonta International by raising and distributing funds for international service programs.

The Zonta Club of the Conejo Valley Area (Supporting Education & Family Safety), invites applications for its Young Women in Public Affairs Award (YWPA) designed to honor one outstanding high school student who has distinguished herself in public service and community work, who thinks of herself as a global citizen, and who seeks to enter a career in social, government or volunteer organizations.

This scholarship is designed to recognize pre-university or pre-college women students'

  • COMMITMENT to the volunteer sector
  • EVIDENCE of volunteer leadership achievements
  • DEDICATION to the advancement of the status of women and thus to encourage more women students to enter careers in  
        public affairs, public policy and community organizations

    Although the following information pertains to college scholarship applications for the Class of 2007, it provides a good summary of opportunities.  Information on scholarship applications for the Class of 2008 will be posted as it becomes available.

    The scholarship information listed below is for scholarships that are clearly attainable for La Reina High School students.  La Reina students are often the recipients of these scholarships.

    CHRISTOPHER COLUMBUS ESSAY CONTEST
    sponsored by the Daughters of the American Revolution

    The Conejo Valley Chapter National Society Daughters of the American Revolution is offering an Essay Scholarship Contest for students in grades 9 through 12.  The 2007-2008 essay topic is:  "How did the four voyages of Columbus change our perception of geography and alter world economics."  Applications are available in the College Center.

    Application deadline is November 20, 2007. 

    Coca-Cola Scholars Program

    The Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation was established in 1986 to recognize outstanding seniors. Each year the Foundation awards 250 merit-based scholarships. Fifty (50) awards are for $20,000; the remaining 200 awards are for $4,000, (Over the years La Reina High School has had several students receive one of these awards). The scholarship can be used for any line of study at any accredited U.S. college or university. Even though they ask for an income range on the application, this does not have a bearing on selection.

    Recipients are well-rounded individuals with highly developed interest in their community. Applicants are evaluated on the following:

    • Demonstrated leadership
    • Commitment to community
    • Academic achievement
    • Employment

    These recipients are expected to be the leaders of tomorrow. Each year they select up to 2,000 Semifinalists (many La Reina students have become Semifinalists) in what has become a very competitive program, as evidenced by nearly 80,000 applicants this past year. These students are selected from ten districts and only compete with others from their geographic region. This is important to understand because students actually have a much better chance of advancement than they may think.

    FIRESIDE Catholic Publishing Essay Scholarship

    FIRESIDE essay Scholarship recognizes outstanding Catholic High School seniors who are daily "putting their faith into action". Five winners will receive $1,000 cash awards for writing a 750-word essay on how their religious education is influencing their lives.

    The criteria for selection includes outstanding leadership in embracing religious education. Financial need is not a consideration.

    To apply for the FIRESIDE Essay Scholarship submit your essay to Mrs. La Belle on or before November 1st. LRHS is limited to one applicant; one essay will be selected by representatives from the religion and English departments.

    Soroptimist of the Conejo - Violet Richardson Award

    Honoring Young Women for Volunteer Action. This scholarship is for young women between the ages of 14 and 17 who volunteer in their community and/or school through volunteer efforts such as: fighting drugs, crime and violence; cleaning up the environment; and working to end discrimination and poverty. Volunteer actions that benefit women or girls are of particular interest.

    The Violet Richardson Award program begins at the local Soroptimist club level, where the type of award varies. Club-level winners then become eligible for one of 28 $1,000 awards. In addition, $1,000 will be contributed in honor of these winners to their volunteer organizations. One finanlist will be chosen from among the 28 winners for an additional award, including a contribution of $2,500 to the finalist's volunteer organization.

    SAE Engineering Scholarship Program

    These corporate-sponsored scholarships range in value from $1,000 to $10,000. Many scholarships can be awarded within one application. To qualify, the applicant must enroll in an engineering program accredited by the ABET at a university of the applicant's choice.

    All applicants must:

    • Be a high school senior at the date of application (Sept. 1 - Dec. 1)
    • Intend to earn a degree in engineering or a related science (refer to individual scholarship descriptions). Examples of related science include: math, chemistry, physics, biology, technologies, computer science
    • Be a citizen of the United States at the time of application
    • Meet minimum requirements with regard to GPA, SAT I and/or ACT scores as outlined in the individual requirements of each scholarship

    The application deadline is December 1st.

    Elks National Foundation ~ Most Valuable Student

    The Elks National Foundation scholarships are based on scholarship, leadership, and financial need. Any high school senior who is a US citizen is eligible to apply. Male and female students compete separately for identical awards. The applicants are judged at local, district and state levels (monetary awards usually given at each level) before they are submitted for national judging. Minimum GPA 3.50 ~ applications are available in the College Center and at www.elks.org/locallodges.cfm (enter the first three digits of your zip code.) Application deadline is usually in January.

    Lucille Rader Education Foundation Scholarship ~ in memory if the Sisters of the Immaculate Heart

    The Lucille Rader Education Foundation Scholarships were designed to honor female students of Catholic schools, within the Archdioceses of Los Angeles, who have demonstrated excellence in academics and athletics, as well as good moral character. The scholarships are awarded in memory of the Sisters of the Immaculate Heart who devoted their lives to excellence in teaching. Two scholarships of $2,000 are awarded annually to two senior Catholic girls who exemplify the ideals of the Foundation. (Minimum 3.2 unweighted GPA to apply.) The criteria in order of importance:

    • A strong and active Catholic Faith
    • A desire to make a difference in the world
    • The ablility to express oneself in correct English
    • Participation in high school sports

    Eula Mae Jett Scholarship ~ Ventura County Legal Secretaries Association

    Legal Secretaries, Incorporated sponsors the Eula Mae Jett Scholarship Program for students who now are pursuing or planning to pursue careers in the legal field and who qualify under the criteria listed on the application form. There are three plans under which a student may apply:

        PLAN A: College Student. Three awards of $1,000 each will be awarded.
        PLAN B: High School Senior. Two awards of $1,000 each will be awarded.
        PLAN C: Re-entry level. Three awards of $1,000 each will be awarded.

    Charlotte Mousel Scholarship ~ Thousand Oaks Chapter, California Federation of Republican Women

    The California Federation of Republican Women, Southern Division, Charlotte Mousel Scholarship is awarded to assist graduating high school seniors who demonstrate their ability to think constructively on matters affecting our government.  Awards in the amount of $1,200 (first place) and $800 (second place) will be based on the following:

    • Scholastic achievement
    • School activities
    • Community involvement
    • Political activities
    • General appearance of the application
    • Constructive thought demonstrated in an essay

    Ventura County Legal Secretaries Association

    The Ventura County Legal Secretaries Association offers annual scholarships to students who now are pursuing or planning to pursue careers in the legal field and who qualify under the criteria listed on the application form.  There are two categories under which a student may apply:

        Category 1: Legal Secretarial Training. One award of $500 will be awarded

        Category 2: Category 2: Other legal careers, i.e., court reporter, legal assistant, or law student . Award(s) of up to $1,000

    Applications are available in the College Center.  Date by which applications must be postmarked TBA.

    Pacific Oaks Federal Credit Union

    The Pacific Oaks Federal Credit Union Scholarship is designed to recognize and acknowledge graduating high school seniors in Ventura County that have given back to the community through service and volunteerism. Also taken into consideration are school involvement and personal character that they see through the completion of two essays and a letter of recommendation. Multiple $1,000 scholarships available. Applications are available in the College Center. Application deadline is usually in early April.

    Ventura County Chinese-American Association

    The Ventura County Chinese-American Association's (VCCAA) mission is in promoting and preserving knowledge of the Chinese culture heritage, language and custom, fostering constructive citizenship, and improving general well being.  They are offering scholarships to encourage high school seniors to enter colleges or universities to pursue their education.

    The VCCAA will award at least one (1) scholarship in the amount of $500.00 and one (1) William Soo Hoo Scholarship at $750.00.

    Applicant must be college bound and have senior status at a high school within Ventura County. Essay requirement: One essay on what I am doing now and what I am going to do seven years from now and one essay describing what kind of role you have played in promoting the understanding of Chinese cultural heritage and/or suggestion to VCCAA that it can play to improve the harmony between ethnic groups in a multicultural community.

    Date by which applications must be postmarked is usually early April.  Applications are available in the College Center.

    Telesis Community Credit Union Scholarship

    Telesis Community Credit Union supports student's efforts to attend the college of their choice. To help you achieve your college goal, they have two opportunities for you to receive up to $1,000 in college funds.

    TThe Telesis Community Scholarship program is set to award twelve $500 scholarships this year!  Plus, they will forward their finalists on to the California Youth Involvement Network Scholarship program (a scholarship program provided by a coalition of credit unions from throughout California) where you will have another opportunity to win an additional $500 scholarship.

    Minimum Scholarship Requirements:

    • Be a junior or senior in high school
    • Be in good standing with your school
    • Have an academic GPA of 3.0 or greater
    • Have an outstanding track record of community service

    Thousand Oaks / Westlake Village Regional Chamber of Commerce

    The Thousand Oaks / Westlake Village Community Foundation would be proud to honor a La Reina High School Senior, who has been employed in the community while attending high school.

    Minimum Scholarship Requirements:

    • A 2.7 GPA or above
    • Plans for post-graduation education, whether 2 or 4 year institution or     vocational/specialty school
    • Employment in the local community while attending classes as a regular student
    • A recommendation letter from a high school counselor and an employer
    • 150 word essay: "What lessons have you learned from being an employee and     what do you enjoy most about your work experience?"

    The Italian Catholic Federation

    The Italian Catholic Federation offers scholarships to Catholic graduating seniors of Italian descent who have at least a 3.2 GPA (If either Catholic parent or grandparent is a member of the Federation, applicant must be Catholic but need not be of Italian ancestry to qualify.) Applications are available in the College Center. The application deadline is March 15, 2007.

    Somis Town and Country Club Community Scholarship Award

    The Somis Town and Country Club is one of the oldest non-profit organizations in Ventura County. Their membership is interested in giving financial assistance to students I the form of academic scholarships.

    This year they will award two $1,000.00 scholarships to two deserving high school graduates who are residents of Somis (93066 zip code). Their goal is to promote and reward academic achievement and to help students achieve their full potential. Students are invited to submit a scholarship application whether they are applying to a four-year college, a junior college or a trade school.

    The scholarship will be based on scholastic achievement, extra-curricular activities both in school and in the community, and a personal statement. Some consideration will be given to financial need. Applications are available in the College Center. The application deadline is April 10, 2007.

    CBW ~ Concerned Black Women of the Conejo Valley

    Applicant Scholarship Award Criteria is as follows:

    • Graduating African-American senior from a high school in the Conejo Valley
    • Minimum grade point average of 2.5
    • Leadership potential (participation in school, community, church and/or job activities
    • Applications available in the College Center
