Philosophy of the Science DepartmentThe Science Department of La Reina High School gives the student the skills and knowledge necessary in understanding and explaining the Universe. Teaching the scientific method emphasizes the need for the development of logical and critical thinking. The student is encouraged to investigate, analyze, and draw conclusions based on the empirical data. The use of laboratory is an integral part of the student's learning activities. The entire science program gives the student an opportunity to understand, appreciate, and respect the inter-relationship between science, humanity, and God. Department GoalsAs an outgrowth of the philosophy of La Reina High School, the science department seeks to develop a student who - Reasons logically and critically, expresses her thoughts clearly, and follows the development of ideas presented by others
- Has an understanding of scientific principles and concepts, a sufficient command of factual knowledge and skill, with the ability to locate additional scientific information
- Recognizes and appreciates the scientific aspects of the natural and man-made environment with respect for life and awareness for the environment
- Appreciates the potential of women to contribute to the scientific and technological advancement of our society
- Discerns that the use of scientific technology must be guided by Catholic/Christian moral principles and accepts the responsibility to uphold this position in a science oriented world.
