The Social Science Department of La Reina High School prepares students for their role as responsible citizens in local, national and global communities. Students are expected to acquire the knowledge, values and skills necessary to participate in a modern technological society. The department pursues and encourages an appreciation of the multi-cultural diversity within the student body and integrates this diversity into the instructional program. Furthermore, the department actively promotes Catholic/Christian perspectives as a means to evaluate and interpret current and past events. It is expected that each student will apply Catholic/Christian values in a manner which fosters goodness and justice in society. DEPARTMENT GOALSAs an outgrowth of the philosophy of La Reina High School and of the Social Science Department, the department seeks to develop young women who: - Know the fundamental facts and concepts of the social sciences;
- Are aware of the interdisciplinary nature of the social sciences;
- Communicate effectively while translating the knowledge, skills and values derived from the social sciences to real life situations;
- Appreciate the uniqueness that is inherent in a variety of cultural differences and backgrounds; and
- Exercise an active, critical and cooperative role in a democratic society.
