La Reina’s reputation for excellence in speech and debate continues with two students, Elleora Svoboda ‘18 and Emily Aguilar ’18, receiving the National Speech and Debate Association Academic All American award.
The Academic All American Award recognizes students who not only excel in their chosen Speech and Debate activities, but also demonstrate excellence in academic studies as well as distinction in leadership and character. Less than one percent of speech and debate students nationally receive this prestigious award.
Adding to the two All American Award winners, junior Alanna Cronk, qualified for the National Individual Events Tournament in May in Kansas City, Missouri in Oratory.
La Reina Speech and Debate team is also proud to have three High School students advancing to the state tournament this year. Elleora Svoboda ‘18 will represent La Reina in Lincoln Douglas Debate, Andrea Chow ‘20 in Congressional Debate, and Alanna Cronk ’19 in Original Oratory. To qualify for the state tournament, each of these ladies placed in the top 6 in the regional tournament, competing against thirty teams. Svoboda and Aguilar also qualified for the National Catholic Debate Tournament in Louisville, Kentucky in May.
Congratulations to these exceptional Regents, and to their coach Mr. Melan Jaich!
