When Ms. Hannah Robinson began looking at coding classes to bring to La Reina, she knew that she needed something creative.
“I wanted to teach coding in a collaborative, innovative environment – one that would allow our students to learn coding by exploring their natural curiosity,” said Ms. Robinson.
Enter Creative Coding 1, a new UC-approved course offered at La Reina.
Creative Coding, developed by the team at VidCode, is a project-based curriculum that teaches the fundamentals of coding - such as variables, loops, and order of operations - through short video challenges. Designed for the beginning student, this class introduces foundational concepts that will be used as students continue to improve their java script coding skills.
Ms. Robinson was especially impressed that VidCode was founded by a team of women. This bright, all-female programming team’s perspective on how to make coding attractive to girls has resulted in a curriculum that fits perfectly for La Reina.
