High School Dance Performance Ensemble
Meeting four times a week, during period 7, and using the principals of yoga, Pilates and classical ballet, our goal is to help the students grow as dancers, artists, performers and most importantly as confident and self-assured young women. The dance performance ensemble participates in jazz, hip hop and choreography classes weekly.
The ensemble is an integral part of the fall musical and will also perform at school rallies, Comedy Sportz matches and La Reina sporting events. It also appears in the Spring Arts Showcase. This calss counts towards fulfillment of the LRHS physical education requirements. These dancers also earn variable activity points and Thespian points.
Junior High Dance
Junior High dancers meet during lunch to learn hip hop and jazz performance numbers. The group performs at rallies, La Reina sporting events and at the fine arts showcase. Many also choose to participate in the fall muscial. These dancers earn variable activity points.
Dance I and Dance II
La Reina offers two courses during the academic day that introduce the student to various dance forms: ballet, jazz, tap, modern and musical theatre. The courses emphasize choreography principles and techniques. Students create dances throughout the year, finding their voice in this medium. Dance I may be used to fulfill either the physical education requirement or the fine arts graduation requirement. Dance II fulfills the physical education requirement.
Studio at School
Students may choose to take their studio level dance classes on the La Reina campus. The list of classes includes: hip-hop 1 & 2, jazz, and lyrical. These classes meet weekly after school. This class is extra-curricular and does not count toward fulfillment of the P.E. requirements or receive any variable activity points.
Student choreography is honored at La Reina. We seek to give dancers a forum to express themselves through choreography. Student choreographers work with fellow students to produce lunch time dance events. To date, students have choreographed dances in the styles of hip-hop, jazz and ballet. Some of these choreography projects have been seen in the fall musical and the spring fine arts showcase. Teh choreographers and dancers earn variable activity points and Thespian points.
Regent Performers Dancers
This group performs in the fall musical as well as the fine arts showcase. The group meets weekly during the fall as well as during tech week. Many of the dancers attend the chorus rehearsals for the musical as well, but this is not required. These dancers earn variable activity points and Thespian points.
