The La Reina community was moved by the many students, families, faculty, and staff who joined us for our 9/11 commemorative flag ceremony on the morning of September 10th.  The sea of flags, placed by those who joined us today was truly captivating.  This beautiful tribute to the memory of the victims, their families and the first responders was a touching reminder of those who lost their lives nearly 20 years ago, on September 11th.

Our God Lead Singers began the ceremony by leading everyone in a beautiful rendition of the National Anthem. As the anthem was being sung by all, Jacqueline Emanuel '12, and Mr. Clifton Brender, La Reina’s Technology Support Specialist, (a retired United States Marine Corps Sergeant), raised the flag together.  ASB President, Sophiabella Nebroski, led the crowd in a special prayer for all the victims and families of 9/11.

We also honored two middle school students and two high school students who were selected as winners of the school-wide essay contest. Middle school students were provided the prompt, “Why am I proud to be an American?” High school students received the prompt, “How did the events of 9/11 bring out the patriotic spirit of Americans?”

The ceremony concluded with the God Lead Singers performing “God Bless America”.   Prayer cards were distributed to all who attended today.
